Network World is at it again

Some folks on here have posted links to articles from Network World and it seems like they are frequently riddled with misinformation. Here is a link to a recent rundown of VoIP phones. They provide a good service in letting folks know about available options, but they make the common mistake of assuming that these phones are 802.11b/g devices.

Remember, all VoIP phones on the market today are 802.11b. If you want to run VoIP wirelessly today, you have to deal with the slower speed of 802.11b. -
Hi Ben:
Despite all the announcements of plans to introduce 802.11a based mobile phones I am unable to find a single one shipping, just as you said.
I did find this:

I hope this helps. Thanks. /criss -
Another good example of Network World's incompetence. Maybe if there were at least an 802.11a chipset suitable for mobile VoIP phones, I'd buy what she's writing.
I am not expecting 802.11a VoIP phones any time soon. With demand for mobile 802.11g so much greater than demand for 802.11a in handhelds (despite all logic about the technology), I'm expecting 802.11g VoIP phones well in advance of 802.11a. -

Hi Ronald of Austria:
"Available in August 2005." But I fail to find a page for ordering one.

Good to at least see an 802.11g VoIP phone. I'm not sure how big or small a player Siemens is in WLANs. I know they acquired Chantry, but beyond that there haven't been any reports of significant traction in the market. It will be interesting to see if they make gains due to this device.
