Since some RTLS solutions do not associate to the WLAN but still occupy the wireless medium, how can one guage activities like WLAN capacity planning? I would guess this traffic is fairly small terms of bytes and frequency however, it seems most transmit at 11Mbps or less. This would use up a noticable amount of airtime in a reasonble amount of scale.

I believe the packets are extremely small, more like a short beacon than anything else. If that is the case, it would depend on how often these "beacons" are sent out.
I think it also depends on the specific type of "tag" being tracked. ie self-powered, or not etc.
