Fast fading and dynamic data rate adjustment

Dear Users

I am searching solutions about slow and fast fading in 802.11 networks. As far as I know, there are two ways to cope with fast fading:

a) Allow extra 10-20dB extra fade margin in the link budget, and

b) The receiver monitors beacon frame continuously and adjust data rate according to the signal strength, which indirectly changes Rx sensitivity and therefore maintain S/N ratio.

I am not sure whether slow fading exist in an indoor environment or not.

Please correct me if I am wrong. In addition, is/are there any other solutions to handle fading in WLAN??
