  • Hi,

Can anyone help me – I’ve been trying to get this sorted for about 2 months but no one seems to have the answer.

I’m trying to move away from Windows XP to Linux.

I had Mandrake 10.0 and have upgraded to 10.1 as I was told this would solve my problem.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9100 Laptop (Nice machine I know, but I bought it with my retirement and redundancy money!)

I cannot get Wireless Connectivity to work at all.

If I hard connect the machine with an Ethernet cable to my home Lan, no problem connecting to the Net.

However the Laptop has a built in Broadcom Wlan 145o Card. It says it is Adaptor Rev 10.3 BCM4306/BCM2050

Under Mandrake 10.0 the Inspiron could not even see the card and Network configuration always defaulted to Lan. I tried all the wireless drivers when I first installed and after but most either do nothing and take me back to the same screen or some take me to an Autoprobe screen which appears to do something but then takes me back to the select wireless driver screen.

Trouble is I don’t know enough about Linux yet although I’m learning every day – products like ndiswrapper have been mentioned but I need someone to Janet & John how I install the Wireless driver, where do I get it from (I’ve tried Dell who are Crap and only interested in XP). Under Mandrake 10.1 the hardware is showing up but I still can’t get it going, so every time I need to use the Net I have to go back to XP as I am now.

Any one up for the challenge of trying to get this working for me please?

    Thanks

    Dennis

Andrew - thanks but I've already tried his method and still can't get it to work. I'm currently struggling with dldrconfig and it seems you have to pay $20 for a license key from Linuxant but I have it on a 30 day trial - I think my real problem is 23 years of Microsoft knowledge and 1 month of Linux
