Performance Impact of Shared Key Authentication

Considering that shared key authentication requires more steps before authentication between a client and AP is completed, plus the added encrypted traffic, what has been anyone's experience with the affect to throughput. Obviously there will be some degradation but how much?

hii all ..
regarding the query of the Sprittman..what I think that authentication process will not add much degradation as the authentication process is one time process but encrytion used will surely do some degradation.
I think acc to today's scenario there are different algos for the encrption and each one effects the preformance accordingly.
Like WEP adds 8 bytes, TKIP 20 and CCMP 16.
more complex encrption needs more time to process and needs gud signal strength so as to correctly get the data.
Plz correct me in case m wrong.
