Dear Friends ,
I am comfused with the WEP key lengths. Please explain me the difference with these.
wep-40,wep-64,wep-104,wep-128
is it like 40bit key + 24 bit IV = 64 bit wep
M confused with this ,as different client utilities asks for different length keys and it becomes diffucult to map the things.
But as per 802.11i cipher suite key lengths we have WEP-40 and WEP-104 only.
Plz help me in understanding this .
Thanx in advance. -
WEP 40-bit = 40-bit entered key + 24 bit IV = 64-bit
WEP 104-bit = 104-bit entered key +24-bit IV = 128-bit
Different vendors, specify different key lenghts but ultimately they are refering to the same lengths. -
Thanx for reply sanjay ...
But I have found three options in some utilities as :
WEP - 40 , 104 and 128
Is there 152 bit key for WEP as 128+24 = 152
What you say ? Is it a bug with thre utility ? -
Some vendors have introduced longer WEP keys to mitigate the security vulnerabilities inherent in WEP. This includes the 128-bit (152-bit) WEP key and I believe some may even have a (232-bit) 256-bit key - This requires 29 ASCII or 58 HEX characters though.
