Hi all, I was just questioned on the availability of a Dongle that can be used with a Cisco legacy POE switch( Cisco proprietary POE)to power 802.3af access points. The client does not want to go the Single Port inject or mid span device such as Pwerdesine.
I do not know of a vender or part that has this available so I know this is the best place to toss this ball.
Regards and Happy New Year to all. -
Typically I have seen engineers installing single port POE power injectors and use them instead of the legacy power switches...while still utilizing the Ethernet uplink from the legacy POE switch.
So, anyone's 802.3af compliant midspan or single port power injector can be used, like Cisco's Single Port POE Injector (p/n AIR-PWRINJ3=) or PowerDsine's single port midspan (p/n OAW-AP-MS1).
There are also multi-port options, check with your distributor!
As for converting Legacy POE power into 802.3af power via a dongle, I have never heard of doing that.
