i do think we are missing a key piece of info here, what authentication method are you using?

As Bruce has already stated, i ran into the same issue running LEAP (LWAPP implementation) with the Symbol HH's (handhelds) expecting the WEP key idex to be the 3rd key (the default is 1). Until i put the following command in, the HH's would not work on our network:

config advanced eap key-index 3

We have 5-6 Symbol HH's per store (we have 1300 stores) so trust me when i say i know the challenges of supporting a Symbol client/Cisco infrastructure. Symbol can never get past trying to sell you their AP's & really dig into the problem, guessing that is why they aren't offering much assistance in letting you know what setting the "client" is requiring but i am sure they you it would work with their controller system :o)
