Same SSID - Different Layer2 Security

With the latest Cisco WLC code (4.0.206.0) you can implement the same SSID, but give it two different Layer2 security policies. This means your WLAN can implement any two of the following;
- Open
- WEP (using Statics or 802.1x)
- WPA1 or WPA2 (using Statics or 802.1x)
- CKIP
See the following URL for more info (Requires CCO Access)

I can see this coming in very handy when customers are going through a slow upgrade process, like upgrading their old 802.11B cards to newer 802.11ABG cards. Using this we can just configure the same SSID, same VLAN mappings, and the old cards will use one method (say 802.1x w/ WEP) and the new cards will use the new method (say WPA2 & 802.1x). Once all the clients have moved, just delete the WEP profile and away you go...
