Just to add to what Criss said, the statement is true. It may help to remember that since 11g (ERP) is backwards compatible to 11b (HR-DSSS) that they must occupy the same physical channels. Since there are really only 3 channels to choose from (1, 6, 11), then there can only be 3 AP's that operate in the 2.4GHz band in a given RF area.

As a side note, this is one of the reasons that 802.11a is so much better that 11g. 11a has up to 24 non-overlapping channels available for use.
