There isn't anything wrong with disabling the broadcast of the SSID. This should be done unless you are providing a public hot-spot, etc.

Hiding the SSID just shouldn't be used as a 'security' measure. The SSID can still be determined even if the SSID is hidden. If you are after security instead of general obscurity then you should consider additional (not different) methods of preventing unauthorized network access.
