I appreciate the replies. I can see price and ease of use being 2 big factors in choosing the antenna. We use Yagi antennas in the disaster relief group I am in, to make longer distance links on the 70cm band. They do a good job, and as Hans pointed out, easier to align than a highly directional antenna would be.
