  • I am studying for the CWNA exam using two books, the CWNA Official Study Guide Third Edition and the Coleman/Westcott Study Guide published by Sybex. On p. 65 of the Official Study Guide it states that "The 802.11 standard requires only that the card report signal strength using a simple metric called Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI)." Coleman/Westcott say, on page 76, "Although it is optional, most vendors appear to have implemented RSSI." The answer to yesterday's CWNPZone Question of the Day said that every card must present an RSSI value. Is it required or is it optional?
