  • When it comes to triggering protection, that is done when a 11g (ERP-OFDM) AP has an 11b (HR-DSSS) client associate. This is no different than triggering protection when CTS-to-Self is enabled vs RTS/CTS.

I know that the article is really old now, but comparing 11a to 11g the way the article did is kind of misleading. If you compare apples to apples, 11a and 11g have equal throughput. The article states that when 11g has an 11b STA connected its throughput drops. True, but how is that better than 11a? 11a can't even have an 11b device connect so which is better? Plus, you can just put the 11g AP into a native mode so it won't accept 11b STA's.

For the record, 11g is not good when compared to its 11a counterpart, but for none of the reasons mentioned in the article.
