    1. Aruba Remote AP needs to be pre-configured on the WLAN controller with its own profiles, roles, policies, etc. - it isn't self-installable in that respect.

    You can manually provision the RAP with a serial breakout cable as to where it's controller is and as long as it's configured on the controller, you're good to go. But in 99% of cases, it's all done ahead of time by IT and thrown in a pile to hand out as needed :)

    In large deployments, centralized management is far superior in cases for things like roaming, failover, density management, etc. Being able to maintain encryption keys, authentication, etc in one (or two or three boxes) in the core speeds up alot of the normal operations that take longer to do with non-centralized devices.

    And centrally managing configs that are then pushed out to APs don't count :)
