Hey Guys.. i need some help ... i got a compaq Wireless Gateway (old technology) and its work as IEEE 802.11b and connect to 17 Units of PC with Compaq PCMCIA (old technology) too and it work very well.. when i configure to Infrastructure Mode.. recently i added another 2 Units of Wireless USB Adapter (802.11b) other brand.. it can connect to the wireless gateway but it cant get the DHCP .. can i know the reason why ? i have already on the DHCP in the router but still i cant get any IP ... also that i have try to put the static IP and also it wont work.. but i found out that when i use the lastest 802.11b USB Adapter... i cant see the SSID.... what should i do ? as the Compaq Wireless Gateway doesnt have SSID only have their own Built in network name...... pls advise
Well this is a tough cookie, that I think relates to drivers and reconfiguring the device back to factory settings. If your device is the Compaq WL 310, here is the link to the setup manual and drivers:

I think they are using public IP address schemes to configure these older devices. That may be the reason, why the DHCP adresses won't work on the other devices that are not "Compaq" persay. If they are handing out address in the public block you may not be able to negoiate the connection.
Weird, but OLD school.
Do an ipconfig/all, and see what the IP adresss of your Gateway is with the old setup and see if it points to addresses other than these:
RFC1918 which offers:
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8 prefix)
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12 prefix)
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16 prefix)

Check for the compatiblity with your OS that can be a major issue as well!
