Actually the human ear starts to detect drops and jitter at or above 150ms so it is imperative that VoIP calls have less than 150ms roam times. It's pretty easy to attain less than 150ms roam times in a Layer 2 WLAN environment, not so easy in a Layer 3 situation (i.e. Wi-Fi phones being able to roam across subnet boundaries). Both Aironet and Airespace solutions are capable of implementing fast roaming in L2 and L3 environments. Typical L3 roam rates are less than 50ms for both solutions which is completely acceptable for an enterprise VoWLAN solution. Also, just due to normal wired network latency, it's going to be pretty difficult to attain end-to-end latency less than 30ms in a large network, for example, try pinging a server across your WAN and you'll likely see responses times in the 50-60ms range (of course ping packets are low-priority so your response times may vary).
