Sure, we use a new UTL-encoding scheme with the new site even though all the old content is there and indexed. You can still find them by searching for the words that were in the old URL. For example, one of the links in the post you referenced ends with "i-need-a-site-survey-template" and if you search (upper right_ for the phrase i need a site survey template, you will find the old post.

However, even then, not all links work. Some forum posts link to documents or sections of the site from the early part of the last decade. We don't want to remove the posts as they have other valuable information and cleaning out the manually created links by posters would take quite a long time :( and a lot of manual work.
