Relationship between 802.11z and Wi-Fi Direct?

802.11z is the DLS standard that allows APs to mediate direct connections between devices. According to the WFA, Wi-Fi Direct is not based on 802.11z.

Anyone familiar with the similarities and differences of the two specifications?
