  • Recently I was came across a situation where I conducted a site survey of a facility where the customer had Cisco 1231?s deployed via a DAS. To make a long story short I was stepping on a lot of people?s toes, hell even had a conversation with 1 of the design engineers who said that DAS was the best thing since ?sliced bread? and that DAS was the best way to deploy a WLAN to support VoWLAN?s. Just wondering if you guys in the field see this often, and see it really work? I mean I get the argument, ?hidden node? vs. being able to put 3 AP?s on a single DAS, just seems to me to be a whole lot of expensive cable, when properly placed AP?s could do the job cheaper and more efficiently.

FYI DAS=distributed antenna system via ?leaky coax?

Btw the reason I was there was because the DAS wasn?t working.

    Hmm...

Interesting topic.  We've expanded our coverage of VLAN subnets (expanded the broadcast range effectively) in an effort to improve the ability to roam - I have to speak to my counterpart about the design considerations and the wholesale effect on diversity in actual practice.

    In particular with Vocera.
