concurrent connections of various vendors

I've got several clients who are planning to "flatten" their networks by removing all VLANs except one or maybe two.
In all these cases, I'm thinking that this might be a bad idea, particularly with some vendors' access points that might not be able to handle the extra broadcast load that will inevitably result when the traffic is no longer properly segmented by VLANs. (My guess is that they want to remove these VLANs because of problems they're having routing traffic with the firewall and/or router).
Does anyone here have a list of vendor access points and the type of load that they can take? I'm particularly interested in concurrent connections that various solutions can handle.
