Just Reading P33 CWAP study guide. Active & passive scanning.
Would it be the case that when a station is started up it would always use active scanning to find a BSS, and may thereafter use a combination of active and/or passive scanning to maintain a list of possible APs to which it might roam at some point.
Or is there some sort of algorithm that dictates when active or passive will be used? For example the study guide mentions rapidly decreasing RSSI levels might require an active scan to quickly locate an alternative AP.
Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, the standard leaves this to the implementer (when to fire up active scanning versus simply doing passive scanning).
