From my experience an AP in ?adaptive mode? running an independent WLAN is able operate as a HW AP for some time after losing communication with the RFS, the only issue would be if the authentication server was also the RFS. Moto says 3 days from loss of controller ?heart beat? to when the AP reverts to box with pretty flashing lights, only seen them last 2 days as that was all that was required by the customer at remote sites; however they actually had redundant controllers so the major concern was the ability to operate without an operational WAN link.
