  • Since 802.11b devices are backward compatible with 802.11 devices (@ 1 or 2 Mbps, and 802.11g devices are backward compatible with 802.11b devices(since they use DSSS when communicating with 802.11b devices), are 802.11g devices compatible with 802.11 devices using DSSS @ 1 or 2 Mbps?

More questions to come. Thanks all for the help.

  • Asper the theory it should work, Pratically need to try and see how it works,

  • Hi Draymond and Amar,

802.11 will be interpoerable with 802.11g /802.11b APs.
Iff all the basic rates advertised the AP is Supported by 802.11 sta.

    Scenario 1:
    ---------------

Say if 802.11b advertises Basic Rates as 1,2,5.5

Poor 802.11 client cant connect to 802.11b AP

    Scenario 2:
    --------------

Say if 802.11b advertises Basic Rates as 1,2.

Bingo 802.11 client can connect to 802.11b AP.

BTW amar Can you update your profile
