Of course it's nothing new: It's Cisco! (sorry, Joel).

That said, a Cisco mesh product, in concert with the SFA buyout, does pose a threat to the startup mesh companies. Now Cisco may have an inroad to cable companies in delivering a CPE that links back to a city-wide mesh network.

All of this is assuming that these mesh networks actually function as promised. I've heard good and bad (though no personal experience).
