Is there any difference in how TKIP is used between WPA and WPA2? Will WPA2 products configured to use TKIP be more secure than WPA products using TKIP?
I am trying to figure out what the difference is between the two, other than the fact that WPA2 devices can use CCMP. -
Hi Pilgrim:
I suspect there are differences between pre-standard TKIP and IEEE 802.11 standard TKIP, but I do not have technical descriptions of both for a comparison.
It may be that the standard Robust Security Network (RSN) information element is only present in the later while a proprietary WPA information element is used in the former, but I do not have enough hands on opportunities to confirm this.
I hope this helps. Thanks. /criss
