OK, let's see if I got this right...
802.11a uses the U-NII bands:
5.15 - 5.25 GHz
5.25 - 5.35
5.470 - 5.725
5.725 - 5.825
That much is clear, my question then is on the channels.
I am looking at many documents, however I will pull this example from s37chan.pdf from Cisco:
Chan 36 - 5.180
Chan 40 - 5.200
Chan 44 - 5.220
Chan 48 - 5.240
So, in U-NII 1, I have 4 channels to choose from ? What about 5.160 ?
If I use the three U-NII bands (the first ranges three shown above) I seem to have 19 channels available for indoor use. That's in Europe, by the way.
The highest band isn't available in Europe.
Does anyone know of a nice clean resource that explains it ?
Thanks,
Neil
