  • Hello Michael,

Not at all, you are more than welcome to post in the thread; in fact I am glad to see that I am not the only one having issues with this topic.

Personaly, I would consider "cipher suite" and "encryption protocol" the same thing. The suite/protocol would be a way to implement the encryption algorithm... but then again I may be wrong ....

Although I appreciate Criss taking the time to give us some answers, I still feel that the base of the question hasn't been addressed.

I understand that the question comes from a third party product, however, what this product does is simply take some statements from the official study guide and reverse them into questions.

So, lets forget about this third party product, and focus on the statement in the "official study guide" which I quote (page 440) :

"WPA supports two types of encryption: TKIP and AES."

Considering all that has been said earlier in this thread, wouldn't this statement be kind of misleading ?

    1) WPA does not certify AES
    2) TKIP is a cipher suite but AES is an encryption algorithm
    3) Why not mention RC4 then ?

If someone else has an opinion on that I would be glad to hear it !
