Adding a Higher gain Antenna to a radio should definitely increase the Recieve sensitivity.

But i have personnally Carried a Few test with no luck.
I think i should tell you abt my tests.

Initially i was using a 50mw radio with 4dbi anttenna and found that the range was less.So i did the following tests.[ I did these test so long ago.
I would have not tried it i had these certs before

Test 1:

I connected a 50mw 11g Radio from strixsystems to a 11g Amplifier[1w] (Dont remember the name) and then a 12dbi Ant . Had it connected in indoor and tried to test if it reallly helps increase the Range.

I used Netgear 511T(Turbo ) and sparklan 611gt for my tests

Conclusion:

I should say that it increased the range by say 10ft.(aaprox)
But the great difference that i found was in the Signal strength.
The Signal strength to distance was better with Amplification.


Test 2:

Tried the same setup in outdoor.

Conclusion :
--------------
Got a better range of 20 M.
